Ingredients
Sambar Masala Ingredients | Sambar Powder Ingredients:
- 4 tbsp Coriander Seeds
- 10 Dry Red Chillies
- 4 tsp Fenugreek Seeds (Methi)
- 2 tsp Black Peppercorn (Kali Mirch)
- 2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 4 tsp Urad Dal
- 4 tsp Chana Dal
- 1 tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
- 15 Curry Leaves
- 3 tsp Rai (Mustard Seeds)
Instructions
- Firstly, heat a non-stick pan.
- Further, roast the ingredients coriander, fenugreek, and black peppercorns seeds for 1-2 minutes. Take them out in a bowl.
- After that, roast dry red chilies for a few seconds separately in the pan. Take them out in the same bowl.
- Now roast curry leaves till they are nice and crisp in the pan. Take them out in the same bowl.
- After that, roast the urad dal and chana for 2-3 minutes till they are golden brown.
- Further, add rai (mustard seeds) and let them pop.
- Place all the above-roasted ingredients into the same bowl and let them cool.
- Now add turmeric powder and asafoetida into it and mix well.
- Once the above mixture is cooled, blend in a mixer to a fine powder.
- Finally, homemade sambhar masala powder is ready for use for making restaurant-style sambar at home.
- Use this authentic sambhar masala as required or store it refrigerated in an airtight container.

How to make sambar masala at home with step-by-step photos:
