A nutritious Indian dessert crafted from dried fruits, sugar, and ghee. This classic confection is ideal for festive occasions such as Krishna Janmashtami, Diwali, or Navratri.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup Ghee
  • 2 cup Phool Makhana
  • 1 cup Muskmelon Seeds
  • ½ cup Almonds chopped
  • ½ cup Cashews chopped
  • 2 cups Dry Coconut grated
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1.5 cups Water

Instructions
 

  • Firstly, in a pan dry roast the makhana (fox nuts) by stirring continuously until they turn crispy.
  • Once the makhana cooled, crush them into smaller pieces or grind them coarsely.
  • Add muskmelon seed and water in a pan and roast them by stirring continuously.
  • Adding water prevents the muskmelon seeds from burning and helps them roast evenly.
  • When seeds have started crackling, semi-cover them with a lid or plate and roast them by stirring continuously.
  • Roast them over medium heat, stirring continuously until the seeds turn crispy. Set aside to cool.
  • After that, heat ghee in a kadai/wok and add crushed makhana.
  • Roast it on low flame for a few seconds.
  • Add chopped almonds, cashews, grated dry coconut, and roasted muskmelon seeds.
  • Mix well and roast them for 2-3 minutes on low flame by stirring continuously and switching off the flame.
  • Now again heat a wok/kadai and add sugar and water.
  • Stir and Cook the sugar syrup until sugar dissolves in water.
  • Boil the sugar syrup to attain a 1-string consistency. To check the sugar syrup, pour a drop into a bowl, and stick it between fingers, A long thread should form.
  • The sugar syrup is ready now.
  • Meanwhile, Grease a thali with Ghee.
  • Further, add the roasted dry fruit mixture little by little to the sugar syrup.
  • Mix all the ingredients well making sure everything is well combined.
  • Transfer the dry fruit paag mixture to the thali to set.
  • Spread it evenly with a spatula or fingers.
  • Put markings on the Mewa Pag by cutting it into desired pieces.
  • Let it cool then separate the pieces.
  • Finally, enjoy your homemade mewa barfi/dry fruit burfi and celebrate Janmashtami or navratri fast with sweetness and joy.

Step-by-Step Recipe

9. Add chopped ½ cup almonds, ½ cup cashews, 2 cups of grated dry coconut, and 1 cup of roasted muskmelon seeds.

10. Mix well and roast them for 2-3 minutes on low flame by stirring continuously and switching off the flame.

11. Now again heat a wok/kadai and add 2 cups of sugar and 1.5 cups of water.

12. Stir and Cook the sugar syrup until sugar dissolves in water.

13. Boil the sugar syrup to attain a 1-string consistency. To check the sugar syrup, pour a drop into a bowl, and stick it between fingers, A long thread should form.
